Barbers and Hair Stylists Compete to Help Defeat MS

April 10, 2018

A fundraiser for Walk MS has now become annual tradition at His and Hers Barber and Beauty Salon in Aurora, Colorado, their latest goal was to raise $2,000.

The money the salon aims to raise will go to Darrin Johnson, one of their longtime who was diagnosed with MS 11 years ago. “Even though we all have different levels for severity and how we have to deal with the disease, we all get funded by efforts such as this,” said Johnson.

Ten barbers and six stylists competed to get their clients to donate money—whoever’s clients donated the most money win a prize package that includes gift cards to various restaurants, movie tickets and a gift from the Colorado Rockies.

Johnson says while they of course want to win the prize, they have really embraced doing so for the cause.

These barbers and stylists are not only raising money, but awareness as well. “The fundraising efforts by this little event and other events around the country are vital to getting that research one day where the world will hopefully be free of MS,” said Johnson.

The barber winning the prize for this recent competition is salon owner Rory Fisher, who has won the competition in the past as well.

The event raised a total of $2,297 for Team jay Hawkeyes. “The more that we can give and donate, we help defeat Multiple Sclerosis,” said Fisher.
