The Early Stroke Warning Signs You Must Know

A stroke occurs when the blood supply to a part of the brain is cut off, usually due to the blockage of a blood vessel. It causes a brain attack similar to a heart attack as brain cell which are deprived of oxygen die off.  

Strokes begin very suddenly and will obviously vary from person to person. The easiest way to pick up on the main symptoms is to learn the acronym FAST:


  • Face – a section of the face, usually on one side, may have drooped. The person may not be able to smile, or their mouth or eye may have dropped.
  • Arms – the person may be unable to lift their arm fully and keep it up, due to weakness or numbness.
  • Speech – slurred or garbled speech, or an inability to talk at all.
  • Time – if any one of the symptoms exist, dial 911 immediately.

Other stroke symptoms can include complete paralysis of one side of the body, sudden loss or blurring of vision, and problems with balance and co-ordination.
