Free Air Conditioners Available for MS Patients

June 20, 2017

Summer is around the corner, which means for many people planning vacation trips, outdoor activities, and just playing in the sun. But for people with multiple sclerosis (MS), excessive heat can create new symptoms or exacerbate existing ones. For the past 15 years, the MS Society of Oregon (MSSP) has been raising money to provide new, free, and portable window air conditioner units to people suffering from MS. They are given on a first-come, first-serve basis and awarded as funds are available.

As a nonprofit agency, MSSP strives to serve as many clients as possible. They provide a BTU window air conditioner that includes a remote. They work best in windows that open up and down versus sliding left to right. You must submit paperwork and documentation that prove you have MS, and then you are placed on a waiting list. When you are approved, the unit will be sent to your home. You take full ownership of the air conditioner, being responsible for the installation, maintenance, and for submitting all warranty information.

If you’d like to donate to help the Oregon MS Society afford the free air conditioners, there’s a Go Fund Me account set up here.
