Beach Wheelchair Allows MS Patients to Enjoy Sand and Water

July 19, 2016

Beach season along the Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea and Dead Sea is one of the most enjoyable things in the world. There are 96 recognized beaches on the Mediterranean Sea coast, 27 sandy strips around nearby Lake Kinneret, 16 beaches at the Dead Sea and four beaches at the Red Sea. Everyone should be able to experience a relaxing day enjoying the sand and surf.

Banana Beach in Mikhmoret, a community just north of Netanya on the Mediterranean Sea, took that statement to heart and added two beach wheelchairs to its coastal furniture collection. Many beaches along Israel are considered accessible to people with disabilities but actually providing the equipment to aid these folks is truly going the extra mile.

The Italian-made chairs sport big yellow wheels that can easily navigate the sand without getting stuck.

Yossi Doktori, the manager of Banana Beach, says the chairs are for the elderly or disabled or whoever needs help moving over the sand: “It is the most fulfilling and exciting feeling to see people use these special chairs and go into the water with ease,” says Doktori. “You can see their happiness.”

This particular chair is made by Neatech, however, there are many different makes and models out there that are designed for beach use.
