Dealing With Memory Problems Due to MS

Do you ever walk into a room and forget the reason you went in there? Do you struggle to remember names that you have been on top of for years? This is not an un-common issue for MS patients. The good news is that there are a few ways to combat memory problems.

Train Your Brain- The same way people lift weights to strengthen their muscles, you should strengthen your mind. Websites like Lumosity will allow you to play brain strengthening games daily and help you improve memory, without spending too much time a day. Filling out crossword puzzles and Sudoku’s will help you as well.

Drink Juice- Research studies show that fruit juices can help boost your memory. Fruits like apples, blueberry, pomegranate, orange and grape are great for boosting your brain power.

Anchor Your Memories- Be sure to anchor important things. Write things down, record yourself or at least say it aloud. Take a mental picture or use your smart phone. Say to yourself: “I will remember to turn off the stove because I am holding this ladle.” Having an additional symbol may help it register in your brain.

Use Technology: It is 2016, use the tools that are available to you. You have laptops, smart phones, clocks, pen and paper. Set yourself reminders all throughout the day to act as safety nets.
